Finishing the London Marathon in just over 5 hrs, Phil Alexander raised over £6,000 in sponsorship from friends, work colleagues and suppliers for the Phyliss Tuckwell Trust

“In May 2006 my closest friend Tony passed away after a battle with cancer. It touched so many people's hearts because Tony was loved by everyone who knew him and was one of life's good guys.

When Tony was finding treatments difficult and normal daily routines painful a charity called The Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice stepped in, opened their doors and helped as much as they possibly could to take away some of the problems and sadness faced with this terrible disease. NOTHING was too much trouble for the volunteer nurses and doctors who looked after Tony, Tony's wife Julie and their families and friends through this extremely difficult time.

Whilst I was at the hospice it came to light that Phyllis Tuckwell was completely charity funded apart from 16% they are granted from the NHS. This subsequently has led to 4 beds closing down in 2006.

After experiencing what a fantastic job they did at such a terrible time I thought it only fair that I attempt to raise funds and have thus been successful in getting a place in the 2007 London Marathon.

The atmosphere on the day was absolutely fantastic and when the going got tough the crowd really helped. With sheer determination I completed the race in just over 5 hours and the feeling was just incredible.

With the help from family, friends, colleagues and companies I have raised over £6,000 which will go along way to giving another person like Tony the respect and comfort they require at such a difficult time of their lives. I would like to say a big thank you to all that have supported me and my efforts. ”
